The Dunmoochin Foundation is surrounded by natural Australian bushland. Our policy in the event of a bushfire is for all residents to leave as soon as possible, with residents responsible to monitor conditions on days of high fire danger. There is a physical booklet located in each residence with the following fire services information, in addition to maps of the foundation properties.
All Dunmoochin residents are strongly encouraged to download and prepare the CFA’s Fire Plan and Survival Guide.
Due to the possibility of a bushfire in the immediate vicinity cutting off residents’ ability to evacuate the foundation, we strongly recommend Dunmoochin residents leave the property on days where the CFA Fire Danger Rating is either Extreme or Catastrophic, regardless of whether there is an active bushfire. You can find out more about the Fire Danger Ratings here.
All residents need to download the VicEmergency app on their smartphones, available for Android here and Apple here. Ensure your notification settings for this app are turned on and you set a Watch Area for the surrounding 20 kilometre radius, at a minimum. Instructions on how to do this are located here.
There is currently no safe gathering place for residents on the Dunmoochin property itself, due to the extremely dry nature of the bush and the sharp incline of the land. However, in the event that residents are unable to evacuate, the residence at Phoenix 2 should be the place of last resort, due to its proximity to the pool and the relatively limited amount of timber. Phoenix 2 is located immediately adjacent to the swimming pool. There are two maps of the property located on this page and a permanent, physical fixed map of the property located next to Clif’s New Studio, along the driveway.
In the event of a bushfire, residents should wear cotton or woollen long-sleeve clothing and leather footwear. Avoid all synthetic fibres, including sneakers, as they can melt on contact with embers. A woollen blanket you can douse with water to cover yourself, safety glasses, thick gloves, drinking water and a battery-run radio are all valuable safety items that are important to have on-hand during a residency at Dunmoochin.
